A film by : Universal Studios , Picturehouse, Hanway Films, Snoot Films
The movie jumps us directly into the plot of the film. Laura Peterson is approached by David Collins ( played by Dan Stevens) who is an army mate of the Laura's son Caleb, who died in the battle of Afghanistan. The family insists on David staying with them for a few days, which becomes the center for the plot later on in the film. The film sets up the thrill and mystery with good pace, wasting no time in unnecessary scenes. The suspense goes to a max towards the last half an hour of the film, with intelligent direction, screenplay and cinematography accompanying all the thrills to violent action scenes.
The best part of the movie is that it manages to set up the plot and the suspense and also the revelation in a relatively moderate runtime of an hour and 40 minutes. The direction has been even throughout the film, and we get an awesome performance by Dan Stevens all the way to the end. The storyline is also backed with some really good soundtracks which add to the effect of the overall scenes.
The film manages to make us care about the characters, even though we don't have much of a back story on any of the characters, which one can rarely find. It also makes us think about all possible things that could be the revelation as the plot starts to boil up during the second half of the film. Being one of the underrated films of the year 2014, this movie makes one of the best films of the year, with a story of suspense and mystery that increases with each minute. This movie is easily a onetime watch and it surely won't disappoint the thriller genre fans.
